A Facebook Post and The Workplace
The article I read this week is about two women who were
expressing their feelings about the company they work for on a Facebook post.
The post was made when both of the women were off and already at home but when
they came back to work the next morning, they got in trouble. They each got a
verbal warning about the incident and were told that if similar posts were made
in the future, they would be fired. Should businesses be allowed to reprimand their
employees of posts they make off the clock? That’s what started this whole
lawsuit. Can a company actually get away with taking your right of “free speech”
away? The case is still pending; however, it is going to be interesting to see
how it plays out. I think the women shouldn’t get into any type of trouble for
what they express on their social media site, every American has the right to
free speech and that includes these two women.
